YouTube and Universal deal with Peacock explained and how it will affect shows

Fans who love Peacock-owned content like Love Island USA will soon have additional ways to watch it, following a massive deal between the parent company, Universal, and YouTube.
The NBC-owned streaming service, which serves as the home of several popular shows, including Love Island USA and Traitors, has struck a deal with YouTube, which will give subscribers to the Premium service access to Peacock’s entire library of films and TV shows, including content from Bravo as well.
The news of the deal comes after the season 8 finale of the popular dating reality show, which broke from tradition much to many fans’ chagrin.

Other acquired content will include the Real Housewives franchise and Summer House, as well as NBC Sports’ portfolio of the NFL and NBA.
The new access goes into effect for YouTube Premium Subscribers in the U.S. in early 2027.
YouTube Premium serves as the subscription-based arm of the web platform, offering those who pay for a membership access to TV and videos without ads. Plans begin at $8.99 per month.
Currently, Peacock Premium costs subscribers $10.99 per month.

The partnership will also reportedly extend NBCUniversal’s agreement with YouTube TV, as well as its distribution of YouTube, YouTube TV and Premium on Comcast’s Xfinity cable TV and Xumo platforms.
Love Island has been a dominant force on Peacock, with the season 8 premiere holding the record for Peacock’s most original season premiere with 800 million minutes viewed in the show’s first three days alone.

Another massive performer has been Traitors, which is set to likely air a fifth season in 2027, right on time for the merger to be completed.
While some shows on the platform have been bona fide hits, others have quietly been canceled due to lower streaming numbers.
Among the shows canceled were Law & Order: Organized Crime, The Copenhagen Test and Ponies.
Law & Order: Organized Crime ran for five seasons, and brought Christopher Meloni back to the franchise following his departure from NBC’s Law & Order: SVU at the end of Season 12.

The Copenhagen test, which starred Simu Liu, was canceled after one season, while Ponies, starring Hayley Lu Richardson and Emilia Clarke, was also cut after one season.
Despite the three cancellations, several other titles remain on the streaming platform, including The Burbs, Nelly & Ashanti: We Belong Together, Twisted Metal, and The Paper.
The streaming service debuted in 2020, and initially contained free, premium and premium plus plans, though the free tier ceased to exist by January 2023.

The streaming platform also houses other episodes of long-running NBC shows, serving as the exclusive streaming home for them as well, including The Office and Parks and Recreation, as well as a partnered platform for Yellowstone.
