Josh Lucas, the longtime voice of Home Depot, appears on camera for the first time in the brand's new FIFA World Cup 2026 ad

Lucas shares a personal connection to Home Depot through his family's history in building and his own DIY skills

After 13 years and countless readings of “how doers get more done,” the iconic voice of Home Depot is stepping in front of the camera for the brand's latest campaign. However, he's no stranger to the screen.

Sweet Home Alabama star Josh Lucas, 54, is revealing himself as the brand's easily recognizable voice in Home Depot's newest ad, tied to the company's official sponsorship of the FIFA World Cup 2026.

“When the company came to me with the idea, at the time they called it "Revealing the Voice”... I was like, ‘Are you kidding me? It's something I would be so totally honored to do,'” the Palm Royale actor tells PEOPLE.

Since Lucas took up the mic in 2013, his voice has become synonymous with the brand. In fact, for some, they recognize his easily distinguishable tone before they remember his face from roles in Yellowstone or Palm Royale.

“I'll walk into a Home Depot and people are like, ‘Oh my god,'” the actor jokes. “Oftentimes, they say to me, 'Oh, I recognized your voice before I actually put it together that it was you.'”

Lucas' desire to represent the brand not only stems from his personal affinity for Home Depot — which he says he visits “multiple times a week” — it also comes from his family's connection to home improvement.

“My grandfather was a builder. My brother is a builder. I'm a great DIY builder. I can hack anything so I definitely feel like I am lucky that I get to be part of a company that I, frankly, would use whether I was involved with or not,” he says.

For Home Depot's latest ad slot, Lucas stars alongside former professional soccer player David Beckham as the pair renovates a backyard to create the perfect outdoor World Cup viewing area. Although the plot relies on the not-quite-accurate narrative that Lucas isn't handy — or at least, isn't helpful.

As he and Beckham get to work on their home improvement project and make many trips to Home Depot for supplies, Lucas sips iced drinks and oversees the labor without actually lifting a finger.

“It connects a lot of dots in my life,” Lucas says of working with Beckham on the ad. “I played soccer growing up. I'm a huge FIFA World Cup fan. And I'm a massive David Beckham fan, I have to say. I can't even like overstate it, frankly.”

On set, the two were able to bond over their love of the beautiful game, fatherhood and even Beckham's beekeeping hobby, which Lucas' grandfather participated in himself.

“I've been joking with my wife ever since, that I have the worst man crush ever now on David Beckham,” he says. (Lucas is married to Brianna Ruffalo, with whom he shares a son, 13.) “I'm teasing my son and wife constantly like, ‘Well, David Beckham would do it like this. What would David Beckham do?' ”

He adds: “It's rare that you walk away from a day of work like that and you feel, like all the stars aligned.”
