Lisa Vanderpump and Ken Todd are denying responsibility for handyman Eric Nieto’s injuries at their Beverly Hills home in 2023
Nieto claimed he sustained severe injuries from a fall on an interior stairway and is seeking $195k for medical expenses and other damages
Vanderpump and Todd argue the handyman’s negligence caused the fall and request the lawsuit be dismissed or go to trial
Lisa Vanderpump and Ken Todd claim they aren’t responsible for injuries a handyman sustained at her home.
Eric Nieto was working on the TV personalities’ Beverly Hills home in November 2023, but during the job he allegedly fell. In November 2025, he filed a complaint alleging that he suffered severe injuries while he was using an interior stairway to the basement.
He alleged he lost his balance after his foot got stuck “due to a dangerous and poorly maintained condition of the stairway,” according to court documents obtained by PEOPLE. He then allegedly fell, twisting his ankle and causing a Maisonneuve-type fracture.
He claimed the severe injuries required surgery, immobilization, and extensive follow-up care, per the court documents. “He continues to suffer pain, functional limitations, and will require further medical treatment.” He requested $195k for pain and suffering, medical expenses, loss of wages, loss of earnings, and other fees.

However, on July 22, Vanderpump and Todd denied the allegations, claiming Nieto was at fault, according to court documents obtained by PEOPLE.

Vanderpump, 65, and Todd, 81, allege “that if there was any negligence and carelessness contributing to the damages and/or injuries, it was the negligence and carelessness of Plaintiff [Nieto].”
Additionally, the denial claims state that if there were “dangerous” conditions, they were “open and obvious.”
The couple alleges that they hired Nieto via an independent contractor, and because of that, they are “immune from liability for injuries caused to [Nieto] by the contractor’s alleged negligence in performing the work.
They request the filing be dismissed; if not, they request a jury trial.
PEOPLE reached out to the attorneys for Vanderpump, Todd and Nieto for comment.
