Jake Shane is choosing to laugh and let some recent viral criticism roll off his back.

The influencer hosted Kacey Musgraves on an episode of his Therapusspodcast to talk about her career, her recently released album, Middle of Nowhere, and some of her other hits personally favored by Shane. After their conversation premiered on Netflix on May 6, some viewers raised their eyebrows at a question he asked about the country star's song "Slow Burn."

After Musgraves, 37, called the 2018 track one of her proudest pieces of work, Shane, 26, followed by noting his favorite lyric. The line, as he paraphrased, goes, "In Tennessee, the sun's goin' down/But in Beijing, they're headin' out to work."

Shane asked his guest, "What do you mean by that? Me and Manny, who I work with, debate it every single day.”

Musgraves responded with some apparent surprise, "Really? It's not a deep-coded thing." After his continued prompting, she added, "It literally just means what it means. It just means they're going to work, and I'm over here. Like, the sun's going down in Tennessee, and over there across the world ... it's a different day, and they're going to work."

The exchange was clipped out and reposted across social media platforms, with many people calling out the simplicity of the lyrics and questioning if Shane understood the concept of time zones.
