Christopher Abbott is about to take on his most rewarding role yet — dad!

The 40-year-old Broadway star and Girls alum spoke out for the first time about expecting his first child with girlfriend Aubrey Plaza on Monday, May 18.

While being interviewed alongside his Death of a Salesman costar Nathan Lane on Today with Jenna & Sheinelle Abbott was asked by Jenna Bush Hager if she could congratulate him.

“You can,” he said, smiling. And when Bush Hager clarified that he was expecting a baby, he joked, “I thought you meant for my Tony nom!”

Noting that he was kidding, Abbott acknowledged that he has a lot to celebrate lately, teasing, “It's too much.”

As for the impending arrival, the actor added, “That's very nice. Thank you very much, it's very exciting.”

“Well, there's a baby inside of me,” the Parks and Rec star shared at the time, adding of motherhood, “I've always wanted, I've always wanted, I've always wanted to see what that's all about, you know? It just seems so interesting, that whole thing.”

The couple stepped out together last month at the opening night of Abbott's version of Death of a Salesman, which recently scored nine Tony Award nominations, including one for Abbott, who plays Biff Loman.

Abbott's on-stage parents Lane (Willy Loman) and Laurie Metcalf (Linda Loman) also received nods for their performances.

“It felt great. I started in theater and I've always kind of consistently done theater now for 20 years,” Abbott said of the nomination on Today with Jenna & Sheinelle. "You don't do this for awards or nominations… but for it to be a Tony, it's a little extra special.”
