Adrien Brody has fond memories of working with Beyoncé in Cadillac Records.

The actor, 52, and the singer, 44, starred together in the 2008 film, which followed Chicago-based record-company executive Leonard Chess (Brody) and some of the musicians who recorded for Chess Records, including Etta James (Beyoncé).

"Beyoncé is wonderful, and she brought so much to that movie," Brody tells PEOPLE in an exclusive interview. "She was a wonderful scene partner, and she was so dedicated and really worked very hard."

"I also am a fan," adds the Oscar-winning star of the Grammy Award-winner.

Cadillac Records is a dramatized account of Chess Records' story. Directed by Darnell Martin, it also starred Jeffrey Wright as Muddy Waters, Mos Def as Chuck Berry, Columbus Short as Little Walter, Cedric the Entertainer as Willie Dixon and Eamonn Walker as Howlin' Wolf.

Through her portrayal of James in Cadillac Records, Beyoncé sings some of the late singer's most iconic songs, including "At Last," "I'd Rather Go Blind" and "All I Could Do Was Cry."

Recalling filming emotional scenes while Beyoncé performed the James tunes for the movie, Brody tells PEOPLE, "They were these deeply emotional moments, and she sang so beautifully. And as she's singing, I kept thinking, 'This is the last time Beyoncé will sing to me and look in my eyes.' "

"It was so beautiful [to see her] pouring out these beautiful renditions of Etta James' work," Brody, who stars in a Super Bowl LX commercial for TurboTax, adds. "It was very moving, and I loved it."

Cadillac Records received numerous nominations after its release, at awards shows including the Golden Globes, the BET Awards, the Grammys, the Satellite Awards and the NAACP Image Awards.

In the years after its release, Brody continued his prestigious acting career, with notable projects including projects such as The Grand Budapest Hotel, Houdini and Peaky Blinders, as well as The Brutalist — which earned him an Oscar, BAFTA, Golden Globe and Critics Choice Award.

Beyoncé, meanwhile, focused heavily on her music career, continuing to cement herself as one of the biggest musicians of all time through the release of multiple best-selling and Grammy-winning projects.

Next up, Brody will make his Broadway debut in The Fear of 13, while Beyoncé is expected to release the final act of her three-part music trilogy, following 2022's Renaissance and 2024's Cowboy Carter.
